Since in the upcoming months we are going to expose almost out whole entire body to the sun and other people’s eyes, we need to exfoliate our skin really well. But we are not all used to it, or we don’t always love scrubs or too agressive products.

Before running to the bathroom and scrubbing our face and body like crazy, here you have some tips to do the right thing:

  • Our skin is really sensitive, and doesn’t need an extreme exfoliation; be gentle!
  • Even if it can be really useful, exfoliation can also lead to some negative effects if not done the right way (e.g., broken capillaris).

Which are the signals than can make us realize we scrubbed too much? Excessive dryness, irritation, redness, sensitivity. If we have even one of these symptom, we need to stop using that product and let our skin breath for a bit. Sometimes, especially if you have sensitive skin, a good cleansing routine and a muslim cloth can be enough – especially on our face.

As far as exfoliation goes, it’s all about your skin type and what you need. If you have sensitive skin, I’d recommend using a creamy product, that doesn’t contain abrasive elements. For your body, the Gentle Body Scrub by Avène is what you need. It contains the Avène thermal water, and it gets rid of dead skin cells making your skin softer, smoother, cleaner and purified, without being too aggressive (price: 15€). For your face, from the same line you can try the Gentle Purifying Scrub; it doesn’t contain parabens, and it will purify your skin with a light peeling effect (price: 12€).
While if you don’t have any particular problem, and you need a pretty strong exfoliation, here you have the right products for you. For your body, try the Ocean Salt by Lush, made out of sea salt, lime and vodka (price: 12,35€ for 120g, 20,35€ for 250g); for your face, use the Apricot Scrub Mask by Bottega Verde, with some little bits of Apricot kernels (price: 18,99€).

Are we too late and your skin is already red and irritated? Don’t worry, you’ll only need to use something with green tea in it, so that it can sooth and unflame the area. An example? The Body Moisturizer by L’erbolario, which also contains Perfect Flower Oil, which will deeply nourish your skin for a long time (price: 17,80€).
